I believe we are all musical and aim to help everyone acheive music skills. I work with 4 year old pre-schoolers through to adult age. I am an experienced music teacher of modern piano and keyboard, for past 25 years in Melbourne, Brisbane, and now based in Gympie, my home town. I use innovative methods to help make music easier and fun to learn. I use contemporary published music books, and compose original material for students to learn some modern styles that are not available in lesson books. I have been a performing artist as a solo keyboard vocalist, and as lead vocalist in contemporary duos and trios in various venues in Melbourne and Brisbane for 25 years. I choose to work mainly with modern music because it has it’s own specific needs and creative skills which are usually not covered by traditional classical music teachers. But I will teach the popular classics that people love, as an added bonus. I emphasize musicianship with my students through theory and aural skills. AMEB and ANZCA examinations are available for suitable students within the modern stream.
I also specialize in improvisation through my jazz background, and pass this on to voice and piano keyboard students. My performance background also allows me to give many insider tips about the music business for career orientated students. Many of my students join bands and compose their own music after a few years of lessons.
I also enjoy teaching students who want to learn just for fun, particularly adult beginners and refreshers. Music is a wonderful pastime hobby, and the piano keyboard is a very satisfying instrument to play.
