Louisa Jose

Louisa is currently in her final year at UNSW studying a Bachelor of Music / Bachelor of Education majoring in piano pedagogy. She has over 15 years experience in classical piano. Louisa attended Brigidine College Randwick and was placed on the Distinguished Achievers list in 2011 for achieving Band 6 in Music. She has performed extensively throughout the years at various functions and recitals including the Suzuki Graduation concerts which are held each year at the Sydney Opera House. During high school Louisa played cello for 6 years in the school orchestra. She now performs with the Collegium Musicum Choir at UNSW.

Louisa believes that every child has their own musical potential which can be fostered through proper guidance and careful instruction . She is a strong believer of Dr Suzuki’s philosophy that “musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue” (Suzuki Talent Education Association, 2015).

During piano lessons students will learn the fundamental skills required in music such as sight-reading and music theory to compliment their playing. Louisa not only focuses on the technical side of piano playing but also encourages her students to develop musical expression. By doing this they are able to show greater enjoyment towards music. Students are less likely to feel pressured and are more likely to develop creatively as a pianist.
