Matthew first began playing the piano when he was 3 years old, and had achieved his Grade 8 AMEB by the age of 12. At the age of 13, he was awarded a scholarship to train at the Australian Institute of Music under the tutelage of Professor Victor Makarov. He achieved his LmusA at the age of 17. One of the highlights of his young performing career was being invited to perform alongside piano legend David Helfgott at his fundraiser concert in 2004.

Matthew has had extensive classical training, building strong technical skills which can be applied to a range of styles and genres. He has since then applied his skills to accompaniment, composition, performance in classical and contemporary spheres, and teaching.

If you would like to learn to play the piano, Matthew can teach you the skills necessary to fullfil your musical goals, whether they be to become a professional performer,to learn to accompany or to just to play for leisure.

Matthew accepts all ages and skill levels in his studio, and provides a safe, friendly environment to learn the art and joy of playing the piano!

Matthew Samer

Matthew is a classical pianist, and contemporary singer, who has been a performer, composer, and musical director for the past 12 years. He has trained extensively at the Australian Institute of Music, performed alongside David Helfgott, achieved his LmusA diploma and composed his first original musical “Hell & High Water”.
Currently he lectures in music at South Bank Institute of Technology.

Since music is so significant to him, he would like to bring all of his experience and technical skills into the teaching studio, and help anyone, whether they be young or old, beginner or advanced to develop their piano playing ability or singing technique.

Whether you want to learn to read music, improve your sight-reading, work on your music theory and aural skills, prepare for AMEB examinations,learn to accompany, become a concert pianist or just play for leisure, Matthew provides a safe, friendly environment for anyone to learn, from first-timers, to the more experienced.
