The Studio…
The Central Coast Piano Studio is operated by pianist Carl Schmidt. The studio caters for students of all levels and offers them the opportunity to develop their piano skills in a comfortable setting. The studio boasts a first class instrument with state of the art technology providing an enhanced learning experience.
Students are taught on a Yamaha C7 Semi-Concert Grand Disklavier. This instrument would be at home in any concert hall and is able to record and reproduce students playing. Students are also able to convert these recordings to audio using an authorized Steinway & Sons Virtual Piano.
The Teacher…...
Carl Schmidt is Head of the Piano Department and Accredited Courses Coordinator at the Central Coast Conservatorium. He is also a piano examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB). He holds a 1st Class Bachelor of Music from Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he studied with Elizabeth Powell. He was awarded numerous prizes and scholarships including an invitation to become a member of the Golden Key International Honours Society for outstanding achievement. Carl was awarded a Masters Degree in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of The Netherlands after receiving a full scholarship from the Dutch Government. He studied with David Kuijken and undertook further study with other pianists including Naum Grubert and Peter Feuchtwanger in London. Whilst living in Europe he regularly appeared as soloist and as member of various ensembles. Carl was invited to perform in the 2004 International Chopin Festival in The Hague and with Steve Reich during the 2003 Steve Reich Festival.
He has recorded the complete Chopin Preludes and the Brahms Fantasien Opus 116 and has been soloist with the Central Coast Symphony Orchestra, Balmain Sinfonia and Sydney Youth Orchestra.
He was a recitalist for the Sydney Conservatorium’s Virtuoso Piano Series and was a lecturer and performer at the 2008 Summer Piano Teachers’ Festival. Carl is also in demand as a recitalist, accompanist and chamber musician, often collaborating with duo partner, violinist Karina Moss-Hollands.
He continues to give Workshops, Recitals and Master Classes for NSW Music Teachers’ Association and for other musical organisations state-wide.
