Piano Lessons

Deon (B.Mus, Dip.Ed) teaches at her home studio. She teaches piano and music theory through two different approaches:

* Classically- tailored program * Contemporary approach

The classically- trained approach focuses on building strong technical and musical skills, with the AMEB/ ABRSM examinations in mind. From 2009- currently, 90% of Deon’s students who enrolled for examinations obtained high distinction, credit or honors. Lessons are structured to strike a balance between developing technique and learning both classical and contemporary repertoire.

The contemporary approach works more with chords while gradually introducing note- reading skills and theory knowledge. Lessons involve singing along to your favourite songs while playing chords on the piano. This style of teaching allows the student to play their favourite tunes on the piano quickly while progressively acquiring musical skills.

Deon holds a current Working With Children Check and is located in Grosvenor St, Abbotsford.

Deon Ning (B.Mus, M.Teach)

Deon (B.Mus, M.Teach) completed her Bachelor of Music (Performance) in both harp and piano from the University of Melbourne in 2011. While studying at the conservatorium, Deon studied the harp under Julie Raines and Delyth Stafford, and piano from Igor Machlak. Deon has also played in masterclasses for other leading harpists like Alice Giles and Marshall McGuire.

Deon has premiered and recorded new Australian works. As an orchestral player, she has performed with numerous orchestras including the Victorian Youth Orchestra, Youth Philharmonic Melbourne, Melbourne Youth Orchestra and University of Melbourne Orchestra. Deon performs actively and is regularly engaged for weddings and corporate events. She holds regular residencies at the RACV City Club and Park Hyatt Hotel.

Besides being an active performer, Deon is a passionate music educator. She has completed a Bachelor of Music and Master of Teaching from the University of Melbourne. Deon has also taught children with disabilities and volunteered her time to music therapy programs.
