Dr Alistair Noble

Alistair Noble is a pianist, composer, musicologist and teacher. He has more than 20 years experience of teaching music at all levels from beginner to PhD-level. As a performer, he has played many recitals around Australia and broadcast for ABC radio. He has a special interest in chamber music, contemporary music, and music of the 20th century.

Alistair’s qualifications include a B.Mus degree in piano, an M.Mus. in musicology, and Ph.D. in composition and music analysis. He was previously a lecturer and Associate Dean at The Australian National University in Canberra, and in 2014 was a Visiting Associate Professor in the prestigious music college at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei.

Recent compositions include Glasteppich I-III, for piano, flute, viola and string orchestra, premiered by Arcko Symphonic in Melbourne in 2014. Alistair writes about music for The Wire, The Conversation, Partial Durations and White Fungus magazine. His ground-breaking research on the music of US composer Morton Feldman has been published in the book Composing Ambiguity: the early music of Morton Feldman (Ashgate, 2013).

Alistair welcomes students of all ages interested in piano, music theory, music analysis, composition, or musicology.
