Piano, music theory and musicianship lessons

I am the Director of Magic Tree of Music, a music studio specialising in teaching piano, music theory and group musical creativity classes for students of all ages and levels. Whether it is purely for pleasure or you wish to study for exams, each lesson will inspire you! I work with AMEB (Piano Series, Piano for Leisure and Contemporary Popular Music) and Trinity College of Music syllabus for exam preparation and also a variety of other classical and pop music, for an enjoyable, creative and holistic learning experience. I also include aural training, sight-reading, effective practicing and musicianship training within the lessons. Each student has a different musical path and goals, so I tailor the lessons to suit you. I will bring to students and help them develop a love of music that can last a lifetime:)

Learning piano can open up a whole new world of musical exploration, appreciation and enjoyment. It helps build confidence, creativity, increases co-ordination and concentration for other studies as well as being fun!

Being involved in music for over 20 years, I am an accomplished classical and contemporary pianist, accompanist, musical director and teacher, having studied at Elder Conservatorium of Music for a B. Mus (Performance) and at the Trinity College of Music in London. In 2009, I completed a Master of Arts in Music and Creative Industries at QUT. I have just completed my PhD in music education at Queensland Conservatorium (2017).

I teach piano and music theory for students of all ages, from beginners to advanced level. Whether it is purely for pleasure or you wish to study for exams, each lesson will inspire you! See my services description for more details about my style of lessons.

My home studio in Morningside has a beautiful, old, baby grand piano but I may also travel to teach local students, depending on schedules. I employ a few other experienced teachers at my studio, who embrace the same creative philosophy as I do.

Magic Tree of Music holds an annual concert performance for all students at the studio. Each year we have a different theme and this is a highlight of the year for many of the students.

I bring to students a holistic learning experience, development of their creative abilities and a love of music that can help them build a lifetime of involvement in music. My PhD research in music education and creativity means that I am a specialist in children’s musical creativity and have a broad experience of different teaching pedagogies (this helps in finding the appropriate teaching style to suit each individual student).
