Piano lessons should offer more than just practising scales and playing from existing scores; it should be a magical carpet ride that unlocks a world of possibilities!

During his nearly two decades of teaching, Philip de Villiers has encouraged both young and old to experiment, connect and reconnect with the myriad of possibilities that the piano presents. While Philip’s approach is relaxed, he pays close attention to detail.

Philip will teach you in the comfort of your own home, or you can choose between his city studio in Waterloo, or at his North Shore studio in Gordon where you can embark on a musical adventure through:

- Playing for fun: learning any song by ear and working out your own fun arrangement – Developing your music skills by learning theory, technique and correct fingering – Playing your songs in different keys, so you can have fun playing with singers and other instrumentalists! – Mastering popular chord progressions – Composition (optional): writing basic melodies and constructing an arrangement around these.

RATES FOR CLASSES

Purchase bundles of 4 or 6 lessons (taught once a week) at the following discounted rates:

30 mins: $180 for 4 ($45/lesson) or $240 for 6 ($40/lesson)
45 mins: $280 for 4 ($70/lesson) or $390 for 6 ($65/lesson)
60 mins: $320 for 4 ($80/lesson) or $450 for 6 ($75/lesson)

ABOUT PHILIP

PHILIP DE VILLIERS (B.A. Honours Live Performance, AFDA)

During his nearly 20 years of teaching Philip has taught hundreds of students privately and lectured at the most sought-after academic institutions in South Africa. Having obtained his Honours Degree in Live Performance from AFDA, South Africa’s most renowned film and live performance school, he relocated to Australia in 2014. In 2015 he taught piano and coached the vocal ensemble at Marist College in Pagewood and also served as an external examiner at AIM (The Australian Institute of Music) for their final year Composition program. In the same year he featured as a singer​-pianist in Baz & Bond, a production that celebrated the songs from Baz Luhrman and James Bond movies.

Since 2007, Philip has worked closely with Universal Music to develop artists who have become successful on the global circuit. His songwriting has garnered him two awards, and his recorded work has been in circulation on radio and television since 2006. In 2009, Philip co-wrote a song that was featured in the motion picture, Mary & Martha starring Hillary Swank, and produced a feature song in 2013 for the international blockbuster Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

RATES & ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Unless you are an established professional singer with an extensive performance⁄recording history, a practical assessment is recommended. A 30 minute vocal assessment will help to identify your strengths and weaknesses, like breath control, pitch accuracy, resonance and overall vocal health. The fee is $45.
