Guitar, ukulele, bass, piano, composition and music technology: BMUS (composition) BA (HUM) Phill has been a consultant and composer for Deep Blue Orchestra (Winners of the 2009 APACA Drover Award), on staff at QUT as a sessional academic and has presented workshops at the National University for Art Education (Hanoi, Vietnam) and UNIS Hanoi (2014). He has performed at festivals such as Livid, Big Day out, Soundwave, Falls, Vans Warped (Australia) Melkweg (Europe) Hue Festival (Vietnam) as well as touring Australia, Japan and Europe. Recent tours have included France, Malaysia and Vietnam – while works have been performed at the 2010 world expo, Shanghai; 2012 Lantern Festival, Taiwan; as well as India, Indonesia and Thailand. He was a finalist in the 2005 Oz Music awards (classical) and received a star on the Brisbane city Brunswick Street rock’n’roll walk of fame 2008
Phill commenced a study of Japanese music and drama in 1998 and is currently undertaking grading towards a koto teaching license. He has also attended master classes with English composer Steve Martland and with musicians of Tokyo Inter-Arts.
Aside from performance and composition, Phill works as a mix/mastering engineer and producer. Recent projects include tracking for the video game “Grand theft Auto V” and mastering ARIA winners Regurgitator’s double live album “Nothing less than a Cheap Imitation”. He has also worked within the fields of arranging, live sound, film scoring, publishing and media conversion.
