Rachel Ferguson (Gaudry)

With a diverse musical background encompassing jazz, classical and pop genres, Rachel Ferguson is an award-winning singer, pianist and composer. After graduating from the Canberra School of Music’s Jazz Studies course in 1995, Rachel relocated to Sydney and immersed herself in songwriting and performing. In 1998, she was a vocal finalist in the Wangaratta Jazz Awards. Between 1999 and 2003, she released two albums of original songs and toured extensively in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, the USA and Canada.

In 2004, Rachel moved into composing music for film and TV and in 2008 graduated from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) with a Masters in Screen Composition. The same year she won the University of Canberra’s National Composition Competition for her piece ‘Canberra’. This piece is now performed at every UC graduation ceremony.

In 2008, Rachel was nominated for an APRA-AGSC Screen Music Award in the ‘Best Music for a Short Film’ category, and won a MPSE Golden Reel Award for her music in the film ‘Shot Open’.

In 2009, Rachel was Musical Director and one of the seven principal performers in ‘JONI – A Tribute To The Legendary Joni Mitchell’, working alongside renowned singers Katie Noonan and Wendy Matthews. The show enjoyed sold-out performances at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, Melbourne Hamer Hall and Brisbane Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

Rachel was a vocal tutor at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney from 2009-2011. In 2011, she moved to Cairns for two years where she taught voice at St Andrew’s Catholic College.

In May 2013, Rachel moved to the Gold Coast, and taught voice and piano at Gold Coast Sound City, Discover Music and Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School.

In 2016, Rachel relocated to Ipswich, and she now teaches voice and piano from her home studio.
