Jazz and Blues Piano Lessons

My name is Richard and I am a jazz and blues piano teacher based in Nedlands.

I have put together a set of fun and entertaining lessons which provide a solid foundation in chord theory which you can quickly build on. In fact in a few lessons you will already be working on some groovy tunes.

In my course depending on what your goals are, I teach:
• Chord theory – the foundation for your jazz music
• How to play great jazz standards like autumn leaves from the first lesson (so you don’t get bogged down with boring chords)
• Vamping/stride and shot chords for that full piano sound
• Count Basie style – it sounds awesome, trust me!
• Chord substitutions for that super smooth jazz sound
• Blues progressions and funky blues riffs
• Intros and endings for added flair in your performance
• plus heaps more…

Once you can play we jam, and try and get you playing in an ensemble because that is what is so great about blues and jazz, you can play with a whole range of other musicians.

I have put together a fantastic course to which is fun and flexible. If you are interested please come for a lesson and see if it is for you (most students end up continuing past the first lesson if this is any indication!).

There is no pressure however and you can leave at any time if my course is not what you are looking for. I charge $30 for a half hour and $50 for a full hour of tuition.

I have learnt classical piano from a young age but became disinterested with the teaching style later I studied jazz and blues piano under retired big band extraordinaire Will Upson and never looked back.

In a few months I was playing popular standards and by the end if the year I was playing jazz piano in a 5 star cocktail lounge. Since then I have played in big bands duos and as a soloist and love all the opportunities this skill has provided me.
