Robert W Laird - Piano Tutor

Robert W Laird is a classically trained pianist from Scotland.
Robert studied under the tutelage of Simon Coverdale at the Ian Tomlin Academy of Music, Edinburgh Napier University.
He holds an Honors Degree in Piano Performance and Composition. Robert also holds a BTEC HND in Piano Performance and has been teaching professionally as a specialist Piano Tutor for over 8 years.

After a number of years living in Edinburgh performing and teaching, Robert decided to focus more on his composition and passion for teaching. This brought him to Australia where he has been teaching for the past 4 years.

The focus of his teaching methods differ from student to student, however there is a fundamental core that every Pianist must have and therefore standard exercises must be completed along side the basic ABRSM/AMEB examination requirements. Exercise books that must be covered in their entirety are Hanon, Czerny, Michael Aaron and/or Brahms. Various other exercises will also be covered depending on the student.

Performance Practice, practice method and various techniques covering relaxation, control and tonal balance are at the center of Roberts teaching practices. D. Taubman piano playing techniques also play a role in his teaching methods. One must learn how to control the playing apparatus and the instrument long before anything else.

Theory is also covered up to Grade 5 but after this it is recommended separate classes are held if students wish to pursue higher theory levels. However, whilst studying exercises and pieces all students must be able to dissect the structure and harmony in order to further build a strong fundamental understanding of music.

Limited slots are available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Robert is looking for keen students wanting to further their piano studies to a high level. The lessons teach children a number of key character strengths that will benefit not only their music practice, but indeed any other studies they may wish to undertake.

Classes are taught on two Pianos side by side, a Yamaha Upright and a Ronisch Upright.
30 Minutes $25
45 Minutes $37.50
60 Minutes $50

Classes are paid for upfront by a term-by-term basis. A free trial lesson is offered to ensure Tutor and Student work well together. Please only serious applicants should enquire. For more information and to receive the terms and conditions please contact Robert directly.
