Stephen is an experienced teacher and performer, having a focused knowledge of piano playing, in many styles of music. He has experience with students of all ages and playing ability, and endeavours to find and develop the talent each of his students posses. He also teaches guitar, bass, studio production and songwriting and enjoys cross-referencing these subjects with students who wish to combine their instrumental education.

Stephen is an experienced multi-instrumentalist teacher and performer, having a focused knowledge of piano, guitar and bass in many styles of music.

Having many years experience as a performer, Stephen is able to impart not just the basic knowledge of an instrument, but also the instinctive lesson which his on-stage experience brings.

Stephen’s composition credits include a film soundtrack, as well as radio and television advertisements. He enjoys passing on what he has learnt from these projects to his students, allowing a greater understanding of the theory behind a successful tune.

He has experience with students of all ages and playing ability, and endeavours to find and develop the talent each of his students posses.

He also teaches guitar, bass, studio production and songwriting and enjoys cross-referencing these subjects with students who wish to combine their instrumental education. He is the Vice President of Songsalive! Australia (www.songsaliveaustralia.org.au), an organisation run by songwriters for songwriters, and which has benefited many of his students who are developing their song writing skills as well as their instrumental skills.

Stephen does not teach the AMEB syllabus, with regard to students taking graded exams, although he is quite happy to teach the pieces from any of the AMEB classical or Music For Leisure series. While he is a great believer that all pianists, regardless of their level of competence or achievement, need to stay in touch with their rudimentary practice schedule, he really enjoys using any song, from “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” to the very latest pop songs, to help unleash the piano player within his students.

With his wife, Roxanne Kiely, one of Australia’s most sought-after vocal coaches, Stephen runs the ScoopFX Music Tuition school, which is about to open its new studios in Cherrybrook, NSW.
