Viet-Anh Nguyen - Van Leucia
‘The progression of belief is the regression of hope, as the knowledge of reality is the denial of possibility’
Having been classically trained in the piano since 14 months of age and guitar since 4 years of age, Van Leucia only chose to explore different genres and styles of music as he entered high school – finding modern music to be more mentally and spiritually satisfying, Van Leucia thus chose to use his knowledge and understanding gained from classical music to enhance his playing, improvisation and composition.
Van Leucia primarily plays the piano and sings, but he is equally transmutable in ability in the guitar (classical/acoustic/electric/bass). His primary stage/studio-slammer is playing both keys and axe at the same time.
Upon finding complete satisfaction in progressive music (metal and rock being the main instigators), Van Leucia thus chose to use his experiences in classical music, jazz, flamenco and metal to harmonize them as an evolving whole.
His influences draw from Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, Opeth, Protest the Hero, John Mayer, Killswitch Engage, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Paco Pena, Paco de Lucia and many others.
Van Leucia began recording tracks in late 2010 and aspires to ‘evolve the bland world of stereotype to that of originality and to inspire a desire of variety and change in all’.
His own hobbies/sporting interests include figure skating, fencing, acting and creative writing (within which he favours theologically minded poetry).
