Piano tuitions for beginners

As any experienced parent will testify, children who receive extra instructions and feedback while studying often perform better than their peers who do not receive much guidance from Mum and Dad.

So what happens when the children take piano lessons, and the parents do not have the necessary knowledge to guild them through the practice sessions at home? Well, when beginner level students have to rely solely on themselves in between their lessons, all sorts of mistakes could have been made AND reinforced upon the young and impressionable mind through practising incorrect stuff again and again (especially if they are eager learners). People tend to forget that most children who learn to play the piano do not yet have the ability to self-correct, and repetition of ‘the wrong stuff’ often does more damage to their skill than a weekly lesson could mitigate, let alone reverse. Eventually, improvements become just too difficult to achieve, and the child loses interest.

This is where I come in. Without interfering with the course structure set out by their own teacher (unless that’s also me), I offer instructions and timely feedback to your children while they do their piano homework (i.e. practice). Through monitoring and mentoring them during the practice, I help the children develop proper techniques by correcting any errors / mistakes as soon as they occur. The difference my tuitions make on your child’s progress will be significant within mere months, so if you are interested in securing a time slot for your young artist on my Yamaha U3, please drop me a line to discuss.

Thank you and hope to hear from you soon.

PS: I’m also happy to provide tuition services to adult beginners, do drop me a line to discuss.

Xing Tong

As a well experienced piano teacher, I offer lessons and tutoring sessions for beginner level students, both children and adults.

My piano lessons always include both practice and musical theory, as it helps the students appreciate the ‘why’ as well as understand the ‘what’ and ‘how’. As a parent, you’re highly encouraged to invest some time (as little as 10 minutes a day) when your child is practising, since supervision always helps them achieve the best results from each lesson. I was trained in classical music myself, and I believe strongly in the importance of laying a solid foundation and building up proper techniques with my students.

Apart from lessons, I’m also available for tuitions, which are essentially practice sessions carried out in between music lessons. The purpose of tuitions is that the student receives timely feedback and further instructions on their progress. It’s a great opportunity to rectify errors / mistakes so that no incorrect technique gets the chance to become a bad habit. There’s no new homework, instead we spend the time on practice and improvement of skills.

Various session lengths available (20 minutes for younger children, and 30-60 minutes for those with longer attention spans). Home visits may be available for 45 minute or longer lessons, shorter sessions are to be conducted at my studio in Carlton.

If interested, please contact me for more details and availability.

Thank you.
